EDMO at the 17th global UN IGF – Internet Governance Forum

EDMO at the 17th global UN IGF – Internet Governance Forum

In Addis Ababa, from November 29th till December 2nd took place the 17th global IGF conveyed by the United Nations, the largest multistakeholder reflection on the future of the Internet. 4000 registered participants from 130 countries during 5 days discussed of all the various aspects of the Internet Governance in dozens of workshops and sessions.

EDMO, for the second time, has participated to the IGF with its own session, The war in Ukraine and the disinformation war. The idea behind this session proposal was to analyse carefully what has happened in these last 10 months of war in Ukraine, not on the battle front, but on the virtual front. An interesting exercise to understand how the internet could be misused and used as weapon. Not only in the war theatre but also in the rest of Europe and all over the world to fight the battle to influence public opinion.

This was an opportunity to discuss about the policy measures in place in the EU to tackle disinformation, such as the Strengthened Code of Practice on Disinformation, as well as the work done by the EDMO national and regional hubs.

To make a panorama of this effort, were invited to speak at this session, moderated by Giacomo Mazzone and co-moderated by Erik Lambert (Eurovisioni),
