National Hubs meet the Executive Board for the 1st EDMO network gathering

On 7 and 8 September, ahead of the official start of their activities, the representatives of the eight National EDMO Hubs gathered with the members of EDMO Executive Board for two days of interaction and exchanges at the new premises of the EUI School of Transnational Governance in the heart of Florence.

The event provided the opportunity for the hubs to present and discuss with the EDMO network each projects’ main objectives, partners, and planned activities. Each hub will create its own multidisciplinary network of academic researchers, fact-checkers, and media practitioners capable of detecting and analysing disinformation campaigns, organising media literacy activities, and analysing of the digital media ecosystem.

The two-day meeting developed into a lively brainstorming exercise aimed at sharing views on key objectives, elements, and instruments to build a solid collaboration framework for a national and multinational integrated approach against online disinformation.

It was a unique opportunity to explore the potential that a collaborative network can bring forward: from sharing best practices for joint factchecking investigations and coordinated media literacy exercises to exchanging knowledge and ideas on online disinformation research and analysis.

Adriana Dergam, representative of the Central European Digital Media Observatory (CEDMO) said “We are very trilled to be joining the EDMO family. The analysis, the research, the way we conduct media literacy campaigns or the way we influence policy makers and regulators is for us a joint effort and we should learn from each other.”
