On the occasion of International Fact-Checking Day, and as part of the Night of Ideas “Power to Act”, the French Institute in Hungary organised the round table ” Combating Disinformation and Strengthening European Democracies: The Future of Fact-Checking “, open to the general public.
The rise of social media and the digital revolution has facilitated access to an infinite amount of information, making it difficult to distinguish between reliable content and misinformation. The spread of disinformation, which can be fueled by external interests, poses a real threat to the proper functioning of our democracies.
In this context, how can European and national frameworks, particularly French and Hungarian, combat disinformation and foreign interference? What role for media regulation and fact-checking? How can we manage the manipulation of algorithms on social networks and the emergence of new forms of disinformation, particularly via artificial intelligence?
