The event, with the aim of training journalists on fact-checking tools, has been organized in collaboration with the Fondazione dell’Ordine dei Giornalisti della Toscana, EDMO (European Digital Media Observatory), IDMO (Italian Digital Media Observatory), and EUI (European University Institute).
Disinformation, fueled by new technologies and social media platforms, is having a dramatic impact on information, endangering not only democratic principles but also the role of traditional media. In this context, fact-checking techniques are playing an increasingly important role in countering disinformation.
Fact-checking activities can provide journalists with innovative tools to fulfill their role in informing the public and helping identify which news, circulating on media or social networks, is false, decontextualized, or inaccurate.
The course will begin with an introduction to the mechanisms behind disinformation and its impact on media, focusing on basic fact-checking techniques, particularly tools for verifying images.
