The webinar will focus on the critical issue of FIMI during elections and press freedom, specifically examining the cases of Moldova and Georgia. Speakers include Paula Gori (EDMO Secretary-General and Coordinator), Rolf Nijmeijer (Research Associate at the European Media and Information Fund), Denis Cenusa (Policy Leader Fellow at STG and Associate Expert at the Center for Eastern European Studies, Lithuania) and Nina Shengelia (Policy Leader Fellow at STG and founder of the Social Media Council, Georgia). Arianna Stech (Master’s Student at STG) will be moderating the webinar.
In particular, the webinar will focus on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI). As local experts from the two countries of interest, Nina Shengelia and Denis Cenusa will open with an analysis of instances of FIMI identified during Parliamentary Elections in Moldova and Georgia, emphasising the impact of disinformation on electoral integrity. Paula Gori and Rolf Nijmeijer will follow with some general reflections on disinformation and, more specifically, disinformation techniques as related to elections, drawing on their wide expertise in the field. A Q&A session will then follow the presentations.
