Seeking Truth, Ensuring Quality: NORDIS Partners Present New Publication on the Role of Journalism
On 28 April 2025, the University of Bergen, Media Cluster Norway, and the Nordic Observatory for Digital Media and Information Disorder (NORDIS) presented the publication “Seeking Truth, Ensuring Quality: Journalistic Weapons in the Age of Disinformation” as part of the “Journalistic Weapons” conference in Brussels.
This publication brings together leading perspectives from European media to address journalism’s urgent challenges, highlighting the diverse efforts underway to uphold information integrity, counter disinformation, and strengthen journalism’s role as a cornerstone of democratic life. With voices from newsrooms, academia, civil society, and public institutions, it emphasises the shared responsibility of all sectors to preserve the democratic value of journalism.
The publication includes ten texts, including a contribution by EDMO Secretary-General Paula Gori, titled “There Is No Preparedness without a Stable and Solidly Funded Multi-layered Infrastructure”. The text highlights the need to retain complexity within the multi-faceted discussion around finding a solution to disinformation. The Contributors include Olav Østrem (Faktisk.no / NORDIS), Fredrik Bjerknes and Laurence Dierickx (University of Bergen / NORDIS), Samantha Lee and Stephan Mündges (European Fact-Checking Standards Network /EFCSN), Renate Schroeder (European Federation of Journalists / EFJ) and others.
