The Nieuwscheckers team (the fact-checking platform of Leiden University) is conducting a series of so-called Factchecking Deep Dives.
The first Deep Dive is entirely dedicated to migration. For this investigation, Nieuwscheckers spoke with the Dutch Foundation for the Protection of Refugees (Stichting Vluchtelingenwerk) and the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA). Together, they mapped out the forms of misleading information and disinformation they encounter on social media and in public debate, and where there is a need for further clarification or correction. This input was used to shape the research in a targeted manner.
The second Deep Dive is entirely dedicated to climate. As the consequences of climate change become increasingly visible, political attention wanes and the flow of disinformation increases. On behalf of the BENEDMO consortium, Nieuwscheckers investigated how falsehoods and frames influence our perception of the climate crisis.
