Assessing the Impact of Media Literacy Interventions: Best Practices and Insights

In today’s digital age, the effectiveness of media literacy interventions is more critical than ever. However, the lack of evidence for their impact has created a daunting challenge. Measuring the success of media literacy interventions is complicated, especially because there’s no standard baseline. For this reason, many practitioners struggle with assessment, even though this appears to be imperative. This training session addresses this challenge head-on. Two practical toolkits will be introduced, and we’ll try to answer important questions, like ‘’ How can we effectively measure impact?’’, ‘’What are some key indicators of success?’’; and we’ll share brief examples of what works best. This session is for media literacy practitioners who want to learn more about evaluation and assessment, keeping in mind the role of EDMO and its hubs in driving change.

Dr. Vicky O’Rourke (Ed.D.) is a Senior Lecturer in Research Development at the Faculty of Business at Atlantic Technological University, Ireland. Her research focuses on areas including marketing innovations, marketing ethics, and advertising literacy. She is interested in the development of consumerism in children and the role of education in this development.

Postdoctoral researcher at the Dept of Media and Communications – LSE. PhD(c) in Management, Royal Holloway, University of London. Experience in digital inclusion projects management. My research interests are related to the intersections between digital inclusion, social appropriation of technologies, digital inequalities and platforms.
