EDMO Taskforce for Elections and Crisis-Related Disinformation

About the Taskforce
Electoral processes and crisis situations continue to expose and intensify societal vulnerabilities to information manipulation – unleashing dynamics that can undermine core democratic principles, hinder effective crisis management, and erode public trust precisely when it is matters most.
In response to this evolving threat, the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) is reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding information integrity by strengthening the capacity of relevant actors across sectors to better understand and effectively counter disinformation when its impact is most acute. Building on its extensive experience in monitoring and analysing disinformation around elections and crises, including the US-Israel War on Iran, on 15 April 2026 EDMO established a dedicated Taskforce, representing the entire breath of its 30-country European network.
The Taskforce serves as a central strategic forum, ensuring coherent coordination of all activities related to disinformation during democratic processes and emergency contexts. By convening leading experts from across the EDMO network, it helps shape shared methodologies, strengthen analytical standards, guide the development of best practices that reinforce Europe’s information resilience, while supporting the implementation of the Rapid Response System, which lies at the core of the Code of Conduct on Disinformation.
Members of the Taskforce
In addition to all permanent members, five Hubs will participate in Taskforce meetings at any given time, rotating every seven months. Should an election – regular or snap – or a crisis occur in a country not currently represented, the relevant Hub will be invited to join Taskforce meetings on an exceptional basis.
