EDMO Expert Group on Structural Indicators for the Code of Practice on Disinformation

EDMO Expert Group on Structural Indicators for the Code of Practice on Disinformation

Following a public call for expressions of interest, the Policy Research and Analysis stream of the European Digital Media Observatory, coordinated by the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom at the European University Institute, selected a group of experts to contribute, on a voluntary basis, to the process of developing a methodology for Structural Indicators linked to the Code of Practice on Disinformation.

The Group is composed of experts with combined expertise in computational methods, platform data analysis, network analysis, audience studies, and excellent familiarity with EU policies against disinformation, experience in policy assessment and in measuring policy effectiveness.

The initial mandate of the Expert Group is planned for the period April-October 2023, with a possible extension for another six months.

The aim of the Group in the first mandate will be (1) to reflect on the EDMO proposal for Structural Indicators methodology; and (2) to advise on possible complementary and alternative approaches.

EDMO Policy Research and Analysis team has been supporting the process of adopting structural indicators for the Code by tabling a proposal containing an initial set of approaches and metrics towards building structural indicators within a given framework and by participating in the relevant groups of the Code’s Task-force.

EDMO formed this Expert Group to continue supporting the process of developing sound, adjustable, and feasible methodology for the Structural Indicators in cooperation with a wider array of experts, as foreseen by the Code, which is a central EU policy instrument in tackling disinformation.
