EDMO Training on EU Policy to Tackle Disinformation

There is widespread agreement that the EU has been acting as a trailblazer in digital regulation and is today shaping the global conversation on content moderation and the regulation of online disinformation. With the quick passing of the DSA, the adoption by platforms and advertisers of the first self-regulatory instrument on disinformation and its strengthened version in the 2022 Code of Practice, together with a number of draft legislative proposals including the AI Act and the Media Freedom Act, the EU has been approaching new frontiers of digital regulation also in the field of disinformation. The current training aims to provide an introduction to EU policy on disinformation, including most recent developments in the field, also seen through the lens of different players in the field, in particular the EC, ERGA and EDMO.
Target audience:
This training is aimed at relevant stakeholders who would like to learn more about recent EU policy to tackle disinformation, including government representatives, fact-checkers, researchers, media literacy practitioners, civil society organisations, and journalists.
Meet your trainers
Krisztina Stump is Head of the Unit in charge of combatting online disinformation at the European Commission. The Unit drafted the Commission Guidance on how to strengthen the Code of Practice on Disinformation and accompanied the drafting of the new Code by the signatories. She is chairing the Task-force of the Code of Practice. During the last ten years Krisztina has held various positions within the European Commission, in particular in telecommunications, audiovisual media, media freedom & pluralism and copyright.
Stanislav Matějka is the Head of the Analytical Department at the Slovak Council for Media Services, the national regulatory authority for audiovisual media services. In 2023 he serves as a Chair of Subgroup 3 of the European Regulators Group for Audiovisual Media Services dedicated to countering disinformation and strengthening democracy in the digital environment. He previously served as a Hybrid Threats and Strategic Communication expert at the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
Paula Gori is the Secretary-General and Coordinator of EDMO. She joined the School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute in 2017 where she is a member of the management team. Prior she was the Coordinator of the Florence School of Regulation – Communications and Media, which offers training, policy and research activities on electronic communications regulation and competition and she collaborated with the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom, which she coordinated during the initial set-up phase back in 2012. She was for several years the Scientific Coordinator of the Annual Conference on Postal and Delivery Economics and she is one of the authors of the report for the European Commission on European Union competences in respect of media pluralism and media freedom. Paula has a legal background and is a qualified civil mediator.
Lisa Ginsborg works at the EUI School of Transnational Governance on EDMO and is a Lecturer in International Human Rights at NYU Florence. She has worked in a number of research and teaching positions, including at University College Dublin, the EUI-based Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom and at the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC). She previously worked at UN OHCHR and in the legal department of the International Secretariat of Amnesty International.
