Information session on open call for EDMO hubs under the EU Digital Europe Programme

Information session on open call for EDMO hubs under the EU Digital Europe Programme

Organised by the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO).

Date: 15 December 2021

Time: 11:00 – 13:00 (CET)

Place: Online

The European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) is an independent observatory bringing together fact-checkers and academic researchers with expertise in the field of online disinformation, social media platforms, journalist-driven media and media literacy practitioners. Established in 2020, it promotes scientific knowledge on online disinformation, advances on the development of fact-checking services, and supports media literacy programmes.

In May 2021, the first EDMO hubs were announced. The selected national or multi-national hubs have now started their work as part of the EDMO network. The existing eight EDMO hubs cover Ireland, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, as well as Norway, in the EEA. Each hub contributes to the creation of a multidisciplinary community by pulling together academic researchers, fact-checkers, media practitioners, and other relevant stakeholders to create a network capable of: (i) Detecting and analyzing disinformation campaigns, as well as producing content to support mainstream and local media and public authorities in exposing harmful disinformation campaigns; (ii) Organizing media literacy activities at national or multinational level; (iii) Providing support to national authorities for the monitoring of online platforms’ policies and the digital media ecosystem.

Following up from the first round of hubs created under CEF, the new call for EDMO hubs is now open and aims to create new national or multinational hubs for analysis of digital media ecosystems in order to expand the geographical coverage of EDMO. The aim is to establish a network of existing and newly established research hubs across the EU. Networks of experts and organisations linked to the hubs will be part of a European multidisciplinary community that will actively detect, analyse and expose disinformation campaigns in Europe as well as provide specific knowledge of local information environments.

The event will provide information about the open call for EDMO Hubs and showcase EDMO’s existing work. The event will be recorded.
